IAMGold suspends operations at the Quebec mine after reporting the earthquake

(Kitco News) – IAMGold announced Monday that it has halted operations at its underground mine Westwood in southern Quebec after reports of seismic activity.

The company said the event took place at around 2:30 pm on Friday and all subway employees were evacuated safely.

“Relevant government authorities have been contacted and the cause of the seismic accident has been investigated. The company said in a press release,” Westwood Mine and Mills operations are currently suspended while evaluating the business recovery plan.

This is the second time in many years that the Westwood process has been affected by seismic activity. The mine was operating at low capacity after an earthquake was reported in late 2019.
