LAFC slipped to sixth in the west after losing to earthquakes – the Orange County record

San Jose – Christian Espinosa scored another goal from Chris Wondolovsky, and the San Jose Earthquakes defeated Los Angeles FC 3-2 on Wednesday night to claim a playoff in the MLS.

Wondolovsky, who scored 166 goals in his career, scored the most in MLS history, with a shot in the 37th minute to give Earthquakes a 2–1 lead. Espinosa threw an entry from the left side into the far post where Wondolovsky took advantage of her at home.

San Jose (8-8-6, 30 points) played the man after Jackson Yewell received a second yellow card in the 61st minute.

And LAFC (9-8-4, 31 points) scored their unbeaten streak in three straight matches and dropped to sixth in the Western Conference standings, partly due to their 1-6-1 record. LAFC concludes the regular season with a home game against second-placed Portland (11-6-5, 38 points) on Sunday.

Latif Blessing scored in the 23rd minute to give LAFC a 1-0 lead, but an own goal by Eduard Atoyesta leveled it after about five minutes.

Espinosa conceded a cross from Chia Salinas and struck the net to give San Jose a 3-1 lead. Salinas Ronaldo overtook Cerritos to become the captain of Earthquakes with 49 assists.

Diego Rossi capped the stoppage-time scoring with his 14th goal in the MLS this season.

The match was originally scheduled for November 1, but has been rescheduled after three LAFC players tested positive for COVID-19.
