Turkey unites to help Izmir earthquake survivors

Ankara

Earthquake survivors receive various aid from all over Turkey, days after the strong earthquake that struck the Aegean region in the country.

Since the earthquake measured 6.6 on the Richter scale in Izmir province last Friday, ordinary citizens of different cities have traded what they have with survivors in an effort to meet their needs.

Turkey’s disaster management agency, AFAD, state officials, NGOs, institutions and citizens, including children, have tried their best to lend a helping hand to the survivors.

Municipalities, volunteers, associations, students, teachers and doctors have exhausted their efforts to relieve the pain of those who have lost loved ones, homes and other possessions.

In Aydin, a municipality has allocated nearly $ 6,000 from its budget to preparing aid funds for what the disaster and emergency management has identified as the victims’ needs.

Likewise, a group of friends in Izmir raised their savings and donated about $ 600 to help survivors.

The metropolitan municipality of Izmir launched the “One House Rent” campaign and raised more than $ 115,000 in less than 24 hours.

Moreover, in Istanbul, the collaborative shopping site Trendyol and the Turkish Educational Foundation (TEV) raised nearly $ 12,000 to support earthquake-affected students at all levels of education.

Two brothers who survived an earthquake in Elazig, eastern Turkey, decided to send their savings that they had collected in the past ten months to those who might need it in Izmir.

High school students from Bartin County in the Black Sea region emptied their small banks and raised money to send aid to survivors from Izmir.

Telecom companies, banks, associations, municipalities and various institutions launched campaigns to help victims.

The telecom company Turkcell has created a special “champion campaign” for disaster and emergency management workers. Includes 10,000 minutes to talk, 20 GB Internet bundle, 5000 SMS or SMS service.

The company has also set up six mobile charging stations in the areas most affected by the earthquake while providing an internet and free expression package for customers in the disaster area to meet immediate needs. In addition, the children were provided with plush toys of Emocans – characters created by Turkcell.

Kuveyt Turk, one of Turkey’s leading participating financial institutions, has delayed financing installments and credit card payments for three months without receiving additional profits to support customers who were victims of the earthquake.

The Private Kindergarten Association, with the participation of young students and their families, started the campaign “Send toys to my brothers and sisters” all over Turkey after a young teacher who was rescued from under the rubble with her student in Izmir asked children to play.

Association General President Mourad Kos said the group is preparing to establish a long-term psychological support system to facilitate overcoming trauma for the earthquake-affected citizens. “Our team of 250-person psychologists has already been established. We are also meeting with Turkcell and Vodafone. People who need support will be able to see our psychiatrist they want by number one. We want to make it regular for a year,” he said.

Meanwhile, as part of the cooperation initiated by the Ronesans Holding Group, Ronesans Real Estate Investment with the Turkish Association of Psychologists (TPD), children in Izmir are provided with therapeutic support by specialized psychiatrists to address their concerns and improve their psychological state.

The “Emotion Sharing House” project aims to enable children to easily cope with earthquake traumas and adapt to a normal life, eliminate potential psychological damage and increase their ability to cope with anxiety.

Also, in the Black Sea region of Turkey, the metropolitan municipality of Trabzon launched the “Trabzon Share Bread” campaign and sent 5,500 loaves of bread to the survivors.

Likewise, Fenerbahce Sports Club, one of Turkey’s leading sports clubs, sent truckloads of nearly 5,700 products, including winter clothes, to Izmir, as well as masks, toys and stationery.

Unfinished help with the tales mentioned.

Perhaps, most importantly, there were heart-warming letters written by children and adults.

One message started from a little girl: “My dear friend,” and she was filled with passion.

I am calling you my friend because I do not know your name but I felt the pain of the earthquake in my heart with you. “I know exactly how you feel,” she said in the letter. Almost nine months ago, we experienced the same concerns. When you are together, all wounds are healed. “

Another girl wrote: “Your earthquake is not easy. Imagine how much weight you bear on you. You are stuck in a small place waiting for a light like this. Just don’t lose hope, because there is always hope.”

earthquake

The authorities put the death toll from last week’s earthquake, at 114.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Department said that up to 137 victims were still receiving treatment, while 898 had been discharged from hospitals.

A total of 1,621 aftershocks – 44 with a magnitude greater than 4.0 on the Richter scale – shook Izmir, Turkey’s third largest city and home to more than 4.3 million residents, the agency said.

Turkey is among the most seismically active regions in the world and has experienced many devastating earthquakes, including the 7.6 magnitude earthquake in Marmara in 1999.
