The head of the Islamic State (IS) group, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, has killed himself in a raid by US commandos in northwestern Syria, President Donald Trump has said. Baghdad stood out in 2014 when it announced the creation of a “caliphate” in the Iraqi and Syrian areas. His death is a major victory for Trump, who has come under heavy criticism for his decision to withdraw U.S. troops from northern Syria.
