200 accelerometers are being installed in Tehran

Tehran mayor, Pirouz Hanashi, said about 200 accelerometers will be installed in earthquake-prone areas of the capital.

This was stated at a ceremony in Tehran on Saturday to unveil an earthquake warning system with 22 seismic acceleration stations, and the second phase of the flood warning system and glacier prediction system was inaugurated with four snow measurement stations.

So far, Hanashi said, 26 accelerometers have been installed, expressing his hope that with the help of other institutions and providing facilities, we will be able to install another 200 devices in earthquake-prone areas around Tehran.

He said that for Tehran the earthquake is the main threat, followed by the floods, indicating that there is an urgent need to raise the level of preparedness, according to the Iranian News Agency.

Hanashi noted that earthquake prediction technology has not yet been developed in the world, but these accelerometers can make rescue forces more prepared for a potential earthquake, and they can also get organizations such as fire stations ready a few seconds before an earthquake strikes.
