Kontaiika Village on Samos needs your help

The village of Kontaiika is the most affected area in Samos !!!

On the morning of October 30, an earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale jolted the eastern Mediterranean.

The earthquake had a devastating effect on the beautiful island of Samos.

The island was badly damaged and the earthquake caused a lot of damage, even two people were killed.

Kontaiika village was severely damaged and was considered the most affected area in Samos.

Most of the old public buildings have been reduced to rubble, many homes and inhabited buildings have been destroyed, while many other buildings have been designated as danger areas until the damage is assessed and repaired.

Residents sleep in tents outside (despite the cooler temperatures) and in their cars so they can enter their homes safely again.

The church, a beacon of faith to the community for more than 120 years, now has a gap in extensive external and internal damage.

The aftershocks have been continuous and scientists say larger tremors may follow in the coming days.

Elpida Maragoudakis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania created a Go Fund Me page to try to support Kontaiika, the village her family has called home with for more than five generations.

She hopes that this fundraiser will support the villagers and help them with the damage. “Our only wish is to see our village in all its glory, and most importantly, for its residents to live in safety again,” she stated.

Elpida spoke to the head of the Kontaiika Village and she plans to send him the money directly for it to be allocated. The money will initially be used to purchase food supplies and other necessities for villagers who do not now have homes, and then it will go to the restoration of the church, homes and roads.
