President Ilham Aliyev has said his forces are gaining ground in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and are “reducing the chances of Armenia reaching a compromise.” Fighting has erupted in the territory, which is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan but is led by ethnic Armenians backed by the Armenian government. The president has said he sees no chance of peace with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
