US Elections: How Will Protests Against “Stolen Elections” Affect America? – BBC Newsnight
Donald Trump has so far refused to accept the US election of President-elect Joe Biden and has promised to challenge the expected outcome in court. What impact does this have on democracy and U.S. unification? Subscribe here:
Democrat Joe Biden has been named president-elect, but President Donald Trump is still organizing legal challenges to achieve results in some key states. His lawyer Rudy Giuliani told Fox News that it would be wrong for Trump to accept it: “There is strong evidence that at least three or four states, and perhaps 10, were stolen elections.” Trump’s campaign has yet to provide that “solid evidence,” but he says he intends to sue in several key states. How does Trump’s reluctance to resign affect his political discourse and attempts to reunite in the US? Is the U.S. culture in danger of going into a real war now? Newsnight International Editor Gabriel Gatehouse has reported from Maricopa County, Arizona, and protesters say they will stay until they believe the election was free and fair. This film was produced by Caitlin Hanrahan and Jack Garland. #Newsnight #BBCNews # Election2020 Newsnight is the BBC’s premier news and current affairs television program – with strong analysis, discussion, exclusivity and dialogue.
