The BBC understands that it will continue to work from home, such as in massive coronavirus tests, until mid-December. It is often said that the prime minister wants to “clean the air and move forward”. Cummings has been at the heart of the No. 10 power struggle, and communications director Lee Cain has also stepped aside. Several Tory lawmakers have welcomed the couple’s departure as an opportunity to give Mr Johnson a fresh start. BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg said Mr Cummings’ move to get out of number 10 was a “disappointment for the group” on Downing Street, saying it had been a “difficult week”.
