Two rattle earthquakes of Southern California
Two earthquakes struck southern California early this morning, with hundreds of residents reporting the two earthquakes.
The United States Geological Survey reported that a 3.5-magnitude earthquake struck San Bernardino County, east of Los Angeles, at 1:28 a.m., while another earthquake of comparable strength struck the Mojave Desert near Ridgecrest just an hour later.
The first earthquake to hit the state was recorded at a depth of 10 miles and struck near Loma Linda.
More than an hour later at 2:56 am, a smaller but slightly stronger 3.6-magnitude earthquake was felt in the Mojave Desert near Ridgecrest.
The US Geological Survey said the quake occurred near Little Lake and was four miles deep.
Hundreds of California residents took to Twitter to report the earthquakes, with many saying they felt tremors from as far away as Palo Alto and Mountain View.
One woman said, “I was already half asleep playing Sims and then I felt an earthquake, and now I’m totally awake.”
“I always love seeing Kali, immediately take to Twitter to ask if anyone felt this earthquake as if they just did,” read another post on Twitter.

Others seemed more volatile, with one resident writing, “There was an earthquake? I didn’t notice.” Another joked, “It’s not big enough to wake up Californians.”
An earthquake magnitude measures the energy emitted from the source of an earthquake.
Earthquakes between 2.5 and 5.4 magnitude are most often felt, but rarely cause significant damage, according to Michigan Tech.

Both San Bernardino County and the Mojave Desert are located along the San Andreas Fault, which runs 750 miles across California.
The San Andreas Fault is one of the most dangerous tectonic plates in the world. It separates the North American Plate from the Pacific Ocean, and stretches about 750 miles across California. Three major cities are located near the rift: Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego.
The southern San Andreas Fault is capable of triggering earthquakes of magnitude 7 and above, potentially putting millions of those who live in the area at risk.
The lack of a Great Rift along the fault for more than 300 years has left scientists wondering when the next “great rift” (strength of 7 or higher) might occur.
Last month, Newsweek reported how a swarm of more than 400 earthquakes struck California in the area between the San Andreas Fault and the Imperial Rift.
And last week, the US Geological Survey warned that the quake in the San Andreas fault could mean parts of California are at risk of a major earthquake this week.
“In a typical week, there is roughly 1 in 10,000 chance of a magnitude 7+ earthquake occurring at the southernmost point of the San Andreas Fault,” a US Geological Survey said. “This possibility is quite high while swarm activity is still high.”

Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless.
