Ethiopian Tigray crisis: Government forces ‘against capital’ – BBC News

The Ethiopian prime minister has said his army is advancing on the capital of the northern Tigray region, as soldiers in the region are fighting the central government. The government accused Tigray’s forces of destroying the bridges around the city of Mekelle in order to halt progress. Hundreds of people have been reported killed in nearly two weeks of riots. It is difficult to verify Tigray’s information due to the blackout of most communications. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Tuesday suggested the fight was coming to an end, saying “the last critical action to enforce the law will take place in the coming days”. The conflict has been in tension for a long time, between the powerful Tigrayan party (TPLF) and the central government of Ethiopia. #BBCOS #BBCOutsideSource Please subscribe HERE .
