Hear Sam Smith’s new Christmas song “The Lighthouse Keeper”

Sam Smith has released a new Christmas song called The Lighthouse Keeper – you can hear it below.

Written and produced by Labrinth, this is the second time Smith has worked with hitmaker “Earthquake”, who has produced the title track for their new album, “Love Goes.”

“If any year can make me look forward to the sounds of Christmas, it will be 2020 more than ever, as we yearn to be around our friends and family again,” Smith said in a statement about the song.

“Christmas symbolizes that for me and earlier this year I was inspired to write a love song for Christmas. Labrinth and I poured our hearts into this, and frankly it was a pure pleasure for us to create and make.”

In the song, Smith sings: “When you sail on your journey and happiness is far / Love will guide you until morning, Lead your heart to the bay / Don’t resist rain and storm, I will not leave you lost in the sea.”

After the choir closed, they added, “I will be your lighthouse keeper, take you home safely / I will be the keeper of the lighthouse, and get you safe home.”

Earlier this week, Smith admitted that they were not ready for the “ridicule” they faced after coming out as non-binary.

The Oscar-winning star changed their pronouns to them / they in September 2019, about six months after their debut.

Meanwhile, Mariah Carey has announced plans for a new Christmas album and TV specials next month.

The show, which will debut on AppleTV + on December 4, will feature music and guest appearances from Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson and Snoop Dogg.
