Kylie Moore-Gilbert: Iran-released professor “in exchange for prisoners” – BBC News
A British-Australian academic serving a 10-year sentence for spying on Iran has been released, saying Tehran was an exchange of three imprisoned Iranians. In a statement, Kylie Moore-Gilbert thanked those who worked to free her and said leaving Iran is “bittersweet.” Dr Moore-Gilbert, a professor at the University of Melbourne, had been detained in Iran since September 2018. He was secretly tried and severely charged with all charges against him. According to Iranian state media, he was exchanged with an Iranian businessman and two Iranian citizens arrested abroad. They haven’t named him yet. The news of the exchange first came on Wednesday, in a statement on the website of the Young Journalists Club attached to Iranian State Television. Please subscribe HERE .
