Tigray crisis: thousands of people seek refuge on the Sudan-Ethiopia border – BBC News
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has attacked the city of Mekelle, the capital of the Tigray region, calling on the international community to protect civilians. The prime minister said great care would be taken to protect the half a million people living in the city. The attack came after 3 weeks of fighting between federal and regional forces. UK Foreign Minister Dominic Raab has said the conflict with Tigray is a “very worrying situation” and has warned that if the UN attacks the city there could be war crimes. Across the Sudanese border, nearly 50,000 people have sought refuge. But the BBC has seen troops crossing the border, now more people are being stopped for fleeing the conflict.
