An earthquake of moderate magnitude 5.6 on the Richter scale struck 134 kilometers southeast of San Juan, Argentina, late at night.

The German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that Argentina was hit near San Juan, the capital province, by a magnitude 5.6 earthquake just 5 minutes ago, and the quake struck at a depth of 173 km below the epicenter near San. Juan, Departamento de Capital, Argentina, late at night Wednesday December 2, 2020 at 11.37 pm local time. The strength of the earthquake may have softened its great relative depth below the surface, making it feel weak in absolute terms. The exact size, epicenter and depth of the earthquake may be reviewed within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or when other agencies release their reports. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the earthquake should not have occurred. It caused no major damage, but probably many people felt it as a slight shaking in the epicenter area.
