Meeting on Digital Innovation, Tuberculosis and Implementation Research organized by WHO and the European Respiratory Society
The WHO Global Tuberculosis Program (WHO / GTB) and the European Respiratory Society convened a technical meeting on 7 February 2020 in Geneva on digital innovation, TB and implementation research. This meeting brought together funders,
partners, representatives of national TB programs, civil society and scientists to discuss the challenges and opportunities when evaluating, integrating and scaling digital technologies in program settings. In particular, this meeting
sought to obtain input of elements a an implementation research tool currently developing WHO / GTB and the Special Program for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) to support the use of evidence-based data
digital technologies in program settings. Etoolkit will be launched in mid-2020. As several countries update their strategic plans to combat TB and prepare financing proposals for submission to the Global Fund, this meeting
it also sought to create a mutual understanding of the importance of supporting implementation science to bridge the gap between research and practice.
This meeting today is the last in a a series of efforts WHO / GTB to facilitate the meaningful use of digital technologies for the prevention and care of tuberculosis. It
preceded by a one-day workshop held on February 6th at the same venue for partner agencies RISE project. ASCENT is a UNITAID-funded project that began in 2019 with the aim of increasing demand and adopting affordable digital TB adherence technologies. The project is run by KNCV in partnership with the Aurum Institute of Health
Research, PATH and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Activities are conducted in Ethiopia, the Philippines, South Africa, Ukraine and Tanzania. This is the first in a series of annual meetings to be coordinated by WHO / GTB
evaluate progress in implementing country activities and results of interventions.
