Iceland is joining forces with the WHO to support an integrated approach to brain health
November 27, 2020
His Excellency Mr. Harald Aspelund, Ambassador of the Permanent Representative of Iceland to the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva, and Ms. Jane Ellison, WHO Executive Director for External Relations and Governance, signed a new contribution agreement to support integrated brain health , which will be headed by a newly established unit in the Department of Mental Health and Substance Use. This agreement came after WHO member states adopted a resolution calling for expanded and integrated action on epilepsy and other neurological disorders during 73rd World Health Assembly November 2020[1].
“The global burden of neurological conditions, which determine brain health, is very large and contributes greatly to mortality and disability worldwide,” Dr. Tedros said. “We thank the Icelandic government for their commitment to this underrated issue. Iceland’s support for this work is invaluable in helping the WHO achieve its goal of promoting optimal brain development, cognitive health and well-being, and preventing and managing neurological disorders throughout the life cycle. ”
In the context of Universal Health Coverage and the SDG 2030 program and in line with existing WHO mandates for mental health, epilepsy, dementia, NCDs, child and maternal health, aging, rehabilitation, labor training and basic medicines and diagnostics, WHO brain health units are:
- strengthen policies, service delivery, health information systems, technology, research and innovation in the field of brain health, especially in low- and middle-income countries;
- provide technical assistance and guidance on how to formulate an integrated approach to brain health conditions with an emphasis on promotion, prevention, treatment, care and rehabilitation, taking into account social and environmental determinants of health, especially in low- and middle-income countries; and
- encourage increased investment and inter-agency cooperation at the global level, as well as the involvement of various specialties and sectors.
The Brain Health Unit wants to achieve these goals by following a holistic person-centered approach that focuses on promotion, prevention, treatment, care, and rehabilitation.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
