The WSU student shares an interest in earthquakes

Wichita, KS (KSNW) – Vanessa Weaver’s fascination with earthquakes stirred nearly 1,000 miles in Yellowstone National Park. When Weaver went to school at Montana State University, she always visited the area. During her time there, she lived “two weeks of terror”.

Weaver joked, “We had a couple of weeks that were silly seismic activity, and that’s what made me interested in studying earthquakes – it was because of the impending death that could happen.”

Growing up in the Kansas Weaver, it doesn’t remember many earthquakes that were recorded in a row in less than a month. But she said she remembered a “big jolt” about 5 years ago.

“We had that really big thing that shook all the things off the walls of my house,” said Weaver.

She is currently a final year student at Wichita State University and hopes to continue studying earthquakes once she graduates.

“I would like to do postgraduate studies in Canada or go back to Montana,” she added.

She also wants to branch out to seismologists in the area who can help her with her interests.

“I hope to get in touch with someone doing seismology or whatever kind of earthquake that is here. I think that would be cool,” Weaver said.
