A slight earthquake strikes near Eilat without damage or injuries
A 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck early Tuesday morning near the Red Sea resort of Eilat, according to the Israel Geological Survey.
The earthquake struck about 19 kilometers northeast of the city in neighboring Jordan at 4.30 am. Residents said buildings shook, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Israel is located along the Syrian-African fault, a fissure in the earth’s crust that stretches along the border separating Israel and Jordan, and is part of the Great Rift Valley, which stretches from northern Syria to Mozambique.

The country has seen at least three small earthquakes around the Eilat region and the Arava region this year.

The last major earthquake to hit the region was in 1927 – a magnitude 6.2 earthquake that killed 500 people and injured 700 others.
