A 5.1-magnitude earthquake hits the Japanese island of Toshima – reports

TOKYO (Ardu Point News / Sputnik – Dec 18, 2020) A 5.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Japan’s Toshima island near the Ezo Peninsula, media reported on Friday.

The Japan Broadcasting Corporation reported that the quake occurred at 6:09 pm (9:09 GMT), but the focus was very shallow. The Japan Meteorological Agency put the volume at 5.1 degrees.

Tremors with seismic intensity levels up to four have been reported on Niijima, one of the Seven Izu Islands group located south of Tokyo, and three on the Izu Oshima and Shikin Islands on the seven-point seismic intensity scale. Less severe tremors have been reported near central Tokyo and surrounding areas.

There is no risk of a tsunami. No information has yet been received about the losses and destruction.
