The government of Boris Johnson is under intense pressure as the new coronavirus variant has spread rapidly and dozens of countries are banning travel to the UK. Scientific advisers in the UK have warned that further restrictions on the virus will require even tougher restrictions. The Prime Minister wanted to reassure the public that food supplies are not under threat after France banned the entry of goods trucks from the UK. More than 40 countries have banned flights or imposed restrictions. There have been long queues on the roads of Kent to the port of Dover. The pressure comes as Britain plans to leave the EU without a trade deal by the end of December.
