Rohingya seeking safe travel for refugees – BBC News
More than 200 Rohingya refugees are believed to have died or disappeared at sea in 2020 in search of a better life. The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) says more than a third of those who made dangerous trips to Malaysia and Indonesia from refugee camps in Bangladesh were children. Many smugglers lost their appetite at sea on ships operated by the smugglers before departing at the last point of the destination due to Covid-19 restrictions. The Rohingya Muslims had already fled the house of Myanmar to escape the persecution and return to the Bangladesh Sea was complicated, and the authorities refused to dock most of the ships on the country’s mainland. They are the stories of some who survived. Journalist: Rajini Vaidyanathan BBC South Asia correspondent. Produced by Peter Emmerson. Animation by Davies Suria.
