Trump forgives the father of Paul Manafort, Roger Stone and Kushner
President Donald Trump has announced 26 new pardons, including longtime ally Roger Stone, former campaign president Paul Manafort and White House chief adviser Jared Kushner’s father, Charles. Forgiveness extends Trump’s loyalty to his powers of gentleness to those criminals who are well-connected or close to his family. While all presidents grant controversial pardons at the end of their terms, Trump seems to be moving at a faster pace than his predecessors, using one of the most limited powers in his office to show little inhibition to reward his friends and allies. Manafort and Stone’s pardons reward the president’s two senior and highly-regarded former advisers, both accused by special advisers Robert Mueller, who went to trial and were convicted by the jury of multiple crimes. Manafort, who is serving confinement at home, admitted his crimes and initially admitted to cooperating with Mueller and then denied prosecutors, Stone never cooperated after lying in support of the president in Congress. Manafort spent about two years in prison for bank and tax fraud, illegal lobbying and conspiracy to manipulate witnesses before the Covid-19 pandemic was released, and Trump was convicted earlier in the year of obstructing Congress and threatening a witness. a few days before the surrender is set. #Trump #CNN #New.
