The ambassadors of the 27 EU member states have unanimously approved the EU-UK trade agreement after Brexit, paving the way for its entry into force. The deal is likely to become law on 1 January, as it is expected to be approved by the UK Parliament on Wednesday. It could have a temporary effect under EU rules, although the European Parliament will vote in January. The agreement establishes a framework for trade when the UK leaves the EU single market and customs union within four days. The agreement, which ended with nine months of negotiations, will be approved in writing by all 27 EU governments on Tuesday at 15:00 (14:00 GMT), the German EU president said.
