Croatia earthquake: Rescuers found no one under the debris after examining 84 villages

Zagreb, Dec. 30 (HINA) – The head of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS), Josep Granic, said on Wednesday that HGSS members visited last night 84 villages and hamlets in the areas hit by yesterday’s 6.2 earthquake, and found no one under the rubble or Need emergency help.

“We found people outside. No one was found in the rubble or in need of emergency help. “We had two people with broken arms, which we turned over to the emergency medical services,” Granic told Radio Croatia.

Speaking from Petinga, he said this morning that HGSS was sending around 100 members to continue inspecting villages.

Granik said that during yesterday’s tour, HGSS identified places that needed food, diapers or blankets and was sending people there to deliver them. He added that we will see what is necessary in coordination with the Civil Protection.

“Everything is running its course. Despite this difficult situation, things are working out.”

Granik said that the old buildings in the center of Petringa were demolished and damaged, and that many neighboring buildings were damaged, but not demolished.

HGSS Vice President, Nevin Butar, said Tuesday evening that HGSS has rescued six people from under the rubble in the Petringa district.

Granic said 169 HGSS members from 19 stations across Croatia were on the ground, aided by search dogs, and that the entire Civil Protection Service took part in the rescue operations yesterday and overnight.

Seven deaths have been reported. The seventh victim was a man pulled out of the rubble of a church in Zazina, near Sisak.
