Act safely during an earthquake

In the unfortunate event of an earthquake, it is important to remain calm and resort to the safest place in the room you are in until the shaking is gone. Protect your head with your hands or other easy-to-use items, but do not leave the building during the event because most injuries occur near buildings due to falling parts of the chimneys, roof tiles and glass.

If you are outside, stay away from buildings, billboards, traffic lights, public lights, electrical wires, power lines, and other fixtures. If this is not possible, seek protection from falling objects indoors.

After the earthquake

Once the shaking is gone, you should remain calm and assess the situation. In the best case scenario, you are safe, sound, and able to enter an open space. If so, be sure to take only necessary items (clothes, documents, blankets, and medicines), and leave the building and offer assistance to others, who may have difficulty moving around.
