More than 2,000 buildings were damaged in Tuesday’s earthquake

Zagreb, January 1, 2020 – More than 2,000 buildings were damaged in the devastating earthquake that struck Sisak-Moslavina County on Tuesday, 1,000 inspections have been carried out and over 5,000 inspection requests have been submitted.

The fire station in Sisak is unusable, but Sisak firefighters carried out 2,500 interventions and rescued more than 30 people from under the rubble, during which three firefighters were slightly injured.

HGSS Mountain Rescue Teams and Search Dogs located six people under the rubble and found two alive.

About a hundred police officers deployed in the surrounding villages, warning of reports of alleged theft of humanitarian aid that was delivered to the area.

There are about 1,500 civil protection officers from all over Croatia currently stationed in Sisak Moslavina County.

Structural engineers in the field have inspected public buildings that need to be operational first, according to a tweet from the Civil Protection Authority on Friday.

There are about 100 structural engineers in this field who have performed 1000 inspections and over 5000 inspection requests have been received.

The agency said that people who had been sleeping in their cars since the earthquake were being evacuated.

Antigen testing is organized in makeshift camps in Petringa, Jalina, Sisak and Tobusko.

Fifteen civilians suffering from critical conditions and residing in the Pterenga barracks were examined and taken to the hospital in Popovaca. Nursing home residents will return to the home that has been declared safe.
