A massive landslide north of BC has been recorded as an earthquake in Juneau, Alaska

The landslide that occurred in northern British Columbia last month was so great that it was actually recorded as a magnitude 2.9 earthquake in Juneau, Alaska.

The landslide is believed to have occurred on Christmas Eve along the Alaska-British Columbia border, sending millions of cubic meters of rock thousands of feet into the Taco River Valley.

Big trees were cut like twigs as rocks fell apart, some the size of houses.

He flew along the river to see the scale and scale of the devastation, Jimmy Tate of Tundra Helicopters at Atlin told Global News.

“I’ve flown that river back and forth for 40 years and have never seen these things.”

Tate said the rock must have fallen about 4,000 vertical feet before it hit the bottom.

This is the second major landslide to occur in British Columbia in just over a month.

Experts said a landslide at a remote inlet on the central coast of British Columbia on November 28 caused the shock equivalent to an earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale.

The collapse occurred at Elliot Creek, east of the head of Bute Inlet north of the Powell River.
