Recent scientific analysis has shown that the new variant of coronavirus that spreads in the UK is much more infectious than the standard strain. Researchers at London Imperial College say the new variant is spreading rapidly among children and young people. Despite the stricter closure in England, they have warned that the number of Covid cases will triple. For the fourth day in a row, the UK reported more than 50,000 new infections. The rise in cases is putting tremendous pressure on hospitals, warning them that bed capacity is weak and NHS staff are struggling to cope.
