A magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck Klerksdorp on Friday night. The beating took place around 20:23 east of Clerksdorp, and residents who had taken to Twitter described it as strong.

The Earth Science Council said an earthquake of 3.9 magnitude struck the northwestern region of Clerksdorp on Friday evening.

A spokeswoman for Mahlatsi Mononella said the attack struck around 20:23 east of Clerksdorp.

Residents who took refuge on Twitter described it as powerful.
