Coronavirus: death toll rises as virus spreads to all regions of China – BBC News

The death toll from coronavirus has risen to 170 and, as has been confirmed in Tibet, the virus has spread to all regions of the Chinese mainland.

According to Chinese health authorities, 7,711 cases were confirmed in the country as of January 29.

Infections have spread to at least 16 other countries.

The World Health Organization (WHO) will meet on Thursday to discuss whether the virus is a global health emergency.

“The progress of the virus in recent days, especially in some countries, especially human transmission, has us worried,” WHO CEO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday, pointing to Germany, Vietnam and Japan.

“Although the numbers outside China are relatively small, they have great potential in the outbreak.”
