The BBC has found new evidence of increasing control and repression of Islam in China’s remote western region of Xinjiang – including the destruction of mosques.

Authorities offered inadequate access to religious sites and to higher Islamic authorities whose policies focused solely on extreme religious religion, not faith in itself.

But after completing his official tour, John Sudworth researched the BBC’s Chinese correspondent.
