McConnell: The Capitol Hill crowd was “provoked” by Trump
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the mob that attacked the Capitol was “provoked” by President Donald Trump. “The troop was being lied to,” McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, told the Senate. “They were provoked by the president and other powerful people.” McConnell said that despite the violence on January 6, Congress had fulfilled its duty, securing the victory of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris. “We will have a safe and successful inauguration here in front of the Capitol,” McConnell said. McConnell’s comments came as the Senate was preparing to prosecute the house on charges of “inciting insurrection.” McConnell said Tuesday that the Senate received a message from the House that Trump had been implicated, but noted that the House has not yet submitted the article to the Senate. #McConnell #CNN #New.
