The UK has recorded 1,610 Covid deaths in a single day, the highest number since the pandemic last year. Experts say it is likely to provide higher figures in the coming weeks as well. The Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine said many hospitals are “overwhelmed” by the treatment of desperate patients with “almost on their knees” for many months. The number of new infections is starting to go down and more people are getting vaccinated.
