Leaked documents accurately document hundreds of thousands of Chinese Muslims clearing systematic high-security prison areas in the network.

The Chinese government has repeatedly advocated for voluntary education and training in remote camps in western Xinjiang.

But official documents from BBC Panorama show how prisoners are locked up, indoctrinated and punished.

UK ambassador Liu Xiaoming has dismissed the documents as fake news. He said the measure has protected the local people and there has been no single terrorist attack in Xinjiang over the last three years.

“Aside from the incident, some people in the West have been embarrassed and silenced in China in an attempt to make an excuse for China’s internal problems, disrupting China’s Xinjiang counter-terrorism efforts and prevent China’s continued development,” he said.

The leak was made to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), which has worked with 17 members of the media, including BBC Panorama and The Guardian in the UK.
