Indonesia cuts off internet following protests in Papua – BBC News
Hundreds of protesters held a demonstration near the Indonesian presidential palace in Jakarta, with numerous riots and protests in recent days in several Papuan cities.
The two provinces of Papua Indonesia and West Papua have seen many buildings, including the prison and the market.
The protest responds to allegations of racism against students in Papua in the city of Surabaya Javera.
The government has deployed more than 1000 troops and shut down internet services in the region, “to restore security.”
Indonesia’s President Widodo has called for peace, adding that he will try to “preserve the honor and welfare of all the people of Papua and Western Papua”.
