How women played in the Yemen Arab Spring – BBC News

Yemen was one of the first countries caught in the Arab Spring uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa 10 years ago. Women took part in protests against unemployment, economic conditions and corruption for ousting the long-serving Ali Abdullah Saleh from power. But now that Yemen is immersed in war, how much has it changed since the women’s uprising? BBC Monitoring Sumaya Bakhsh has spoken to Ishraq al-Maqtari, who has been among the first women to take to the streets. Lawyers and women’s rights activists recalled how the uprising was an unprecedented opportunity for women to hear their voices. Video created by Suniti Singh Subscribe HERE http://bit.ly/1rbfUog
