500 were lost at sea
By the end of April, nearly 500 people were killed when the ship went down – most from Somalia – which was one of the biggest loss of life since the start of the European refugee crisis.
Only 41 people have survived. All the children were lost, except one. We have been monitoring survivors and their families over the past few months to try to split stories.
Our African journalist Jamal Osman traveled to Hargeisa in northern Somalia – to meet relatives of some Somali migrants who lost their lives on the fateful day of April. .
