COVAX publishes the first provisional distribution forecast
The Epidemic Preparedness Coalition for Innovation (CEPI), Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and the World Health Organization, as co-leaders of the COVAX initiative for equal global access to vaccines COVID-19, together with a key delivery partner UNICEF, are pleased to announce COVAX’s first provisional allocation forecast.
Building on the publication of the global and regional COVAX supply forecast for 2021, the interim distribution forecast provides information on the early availability of Pfizer / BioNTech doses in Q1 2021 and the AstraZeneca / Oxford candidate in the first half of 2021 to COVA Facility participants. . . This announcement comes less than two weeks after the announcement of the signed purchase agreement with Pfizer / BioNTech and just over a month after the first COVID-19 vaccine was given to the WHO on the Emergency List (EUL).
The purpose of sharing temporary distribution with countries, even in today’s highly dynamic global supply environment, is to provide governments and health systems with the information needed to plan their national vaccination programs. The final allocations will be announced in due course.
The provisional allocation forecast describes the planned delivery of vaccine doses to all participants of the Institution, except for participants who have either exercised their right of refusal, have not submitted vaccine applications or have not yet been assigned doses.
