The WHO is launching a new roadmap to end suffering by 2030

On Thursday, January 28, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially launched a new ten-year plan aimed at stopping the suffering of more than a billion people from neglected tropical diseases.

The moderated event on Zoom brought an audience of 2,623 to the climax, with a further 1,230 views on YouTube. It included keywords, panel discussion, written and video recorded messages, field voices, video clips, artist performance, and messages from several people.

The event is open statement Ms. Amine J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General and Chair of the United Nations Group on Sustainable Development, read by Dr. Ren Minghui, Assistant Director-General of the WHO, Universal Health Coverage, Infectious and Non-Communicable Diseases. This followed an introductory address by WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The rest support video messages they came from permanent country missions to the United Nations Office and other organizations in Geneva, as well as officials from philanthropic organizations, donor agencies and groups supporting NTD programs.

The two-hour event consisted of “voices from the field” where patients and health professionals briefly shared their stories, videos of progress made by the WHO’s first roadmap from 2012 to 2020, comments from former NTD directors as well as three panel discussions on:

The singers were also part of the program, and among them were Damian Soul, a Tanzanian musician, songwriter, guitarist, singer, producer and composer; Mark Joshua Ouma (better known as Teardrops) – a poet and artist of the spoken word from Nairobi, Kenya; and Mimi Mars, a Tanzanian singer – who performed brilliantly.

During the launch, young people expressed their determination to contribute to the liberation of future generations from the debilitating effects that these diseases cause.

Official launch of the roadmap

`Completing the neglect of achieving sustainable development goals: a roadmap for neglected tropical diseases 2021–2030´ – was officially launched during the event. His targets and targets are captured in this short message from the Director-General of the WHO and the Director of the Department for the Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases.

The roadmap is designed to address critical gaps in multiple diseases by integrating and incorporating approaches and actions within national health systems and across sectors. It also provides opportunities to evaluate, evaluate, and tailor program actions as needed over the next decade, by setting clear goals and milestones. Another significant feature is the encouragement of greater ownership by national and local authorities, including communities. The overall global goals for 2030 are:

• reduce by 90% the number of people in need of NTD treatment
• at least 100 countries that have eliminated at least one NTD
• eradicate two diseases (dracunculiasis and yawning)
• reduce by 75% the disability-adjusted life expectancy (DALY) associated with NTD

In addition, the roadmap will follow 10 interrelated and disease-specific targets that include reducing by more than 75% the number of vector-borne NTD deaths and promoting full access to basic water supply, sanitation and hygiene in endemic areas for NTD -s.

Over the past decade, significant gains have been made, resulting in 600 million people less at risk of NTDs than ten years ago, and 42 countries have eliminated at least one NTD, including some that have defeated more NTDs.

Furthermore, global programs treated more than a billion people a year for five consecutive years between 2015 and 2019.
