New Delhi: An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale jolted Tajikistan late Friday night. Strong tremors were felt across the north of the Indian subcontinent, with earthquakes in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi NCR and Uttarakhand.

The quake struck at a depth of 91.6 km, and its epicenter was 35 km west of the city of Marghab in Tajikistan. It happened at 10:31 PM (local time).

The epicenter area is a largely uninhabited mountainous terrain located in Badakhshan National Park, which is part of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) in southeast Tajikistan, according to volcanodiscovery.com.

India

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 struck Delhi and several other parts of northern India on Friday night.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km at 10.34 pm. The earthquake was felt in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi NCR and Uttarakhand.

“There have been no reports of any damage so far in Amritsar or other parts of Punjab in the aftermath of the earthquake. Senior officials of Punjab police and local administration are monitoring the situation closely,” Captain Amarinder Singh said in Punjab.

This morning at 8:01 am, an earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale struck Bikaner in Rajasthan.

Pakistan

A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 struck Pakistan. According to local media reports, there has been no news of loss of life or property so far.

According to the National Seismological Center, the epicenter was in Tajikistan, with a depth of 80 km.

The earthquake was felt in the capital, Islamabad, major cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab provinces and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Pakistan geologically overlaps with the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates and is an earthquake-prone region. PTI News reported that the Shaman Fault poses the largest earthquake threat in the country.

Afghanistan

An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale jolts the Afghan city of Faizabad.

According to the NCS, the earthquake occurred at 10.31 pm today.

“Earthquake magnitude: 6.3, occurred on 02-12-2021, 22:31:33 India time, latitude: 38.00 and long: 73.58, depth: 74 km, location: 285 km northeast of Faizabad, Afghanistan,” the NCS tweeted.
