Sir Kim Darroch UK has stepped down as US ambassador after leaking critical emails to President Trump’s administration.
The ambassador has been dubbed a “very stupid guy” by the US president, after e-mailing his administration as “clumsy and inept”.
The Foreign Office praised Sir Kim’s “professionalism and class.”
The ambassador said he wanted to put an end to speculation that adding leaks made it “impossible” to do his job.
In a letter to the Foreign Office, Sir Kim said: “Since the leak of official documents from this embassy, ​​there has been a lot of speculation about the length of my tenure and my tenure as ambassador.”
“I want to cancel that speculation.”
“The current situation makes it impossible for me to do my job.”
