Hong Kong: Man killed after hitting hard object during protests – BBC News

A man has been shot dead in Hong Kong after a clash between the government and protesters.

The government said the 70-year-old cleaner was at lunch break on Wednesday when he was hit by “hard objects cut by rebels”.

In London, Hong Kong Justice Secretary Teresa Cheng was wounded for attacking government protesters, China’s embassy said.

Protests have hit Hong Kong hard and violence is on the rise.

Ms. Cheng has been seen as playing a key role in promoting a unique bill that would allow extradition to China. This sparked protests. China strongly condemned the incident and called for a thorough investigation.

Chinese President Xi Jinping issued a warning to protesters. Speaking at the BRICS summit in Brazil, he strongly condemned Hong Kong’s “radical activities” [principle of] “one country, two systems”.
