According to the United Nations, Venezuela’s rich oil is one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
Extreme poverty has jumped by 40%, child malnutrition deaths are on the rise, and millions of countries have fled the past two years.
Many inside and outside Venezuela are accused of the policies of Socialist President Nicolas Maduro. His supporters, however, asserted that the opposition and the “imperialist forces” outside the country, including the US, had imposed sanctions on them.
They have been the toughest mothers and children, as the BBC’s Vladimir Hernandez found when he spent time in Caracas.
