The Mataboist explosion was not an earthquake

It’s totally a week since the strange and mysterious sounds of the night in SouthCoast.

The first accident happened Monday night at Tiverton. The Tiverton Power Plant (literally) needed to release some steam right before shutting down. He heard a factory safety valve do its job for miles around. Residents of Tiverton, Westport, and Dartmouth reported hearing a long, lingering noise that they described as similar to a hurricane or a plane landing.

Now, Mataboisset and Rochester are all about an explosion heard for miles around last night. Tri-Town residents jumped onto social media last night, wondering if there was another earthquake similar to the one that shook the area a few months earlier on November 8th.

Some people were guessing that it might have been an explosion coming from a quarry in Accushant, but these types of noise often happen during normal business hours.

We can tell you this morning that there was definitely no earthquake in Mataboest last night. The explosion is called an “accident” at a city landfill by Mattapoisett Fire and Rescue. The good news was that there was nothing to worry about.

“Anyone who heard or felt a loud ‘explosion’ in the city, it was an event planned and coordinated with the Massachusetts State Police at the city landfill. No emergency, Mataboist posted Fire and Rescue on Facebook.

The explosion occurred before seven o’clock in the evening Wednesday.

Maddy continues to believe that these strange noises are somehow related to space activity.
