Germany alleviates coronavirus restrictions in stores – BBC News

Germany has reopened small shops, car dealerships and bicycle shops, trying to alleviate the coronavirus blockade it established almost a month ago.

The country has leveled the curve for new infections and said it had control over the spread last week. But social distance remains in effect.

In Saxony people are required to wear face masks in public – and this is highly recommended elsewhere.

The only students who return to school are those who drop out of exams.

Covid-19’s German mortality rate is significantly lower for many European residents. An important factor has been seen in large-scale testing by diagnostic laboratories and carrier tracers.

The country on Monday registered 1,775 new cases the day before, and the number of deaths related to Covid-19 increased from 110 to 4,404, according to official figures.
