A 4.2-magnitude earthquake near Mapastepec, Chiapas, Mexico, was reported just 21 minutes ago by the National Seismic Service of Mexico (SSN), which is the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Mexico. The earthquake occurred at medium depth to 158 km below the epicenter early in the morning of Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 2:36 am local time. The exact size, epicenter, and depth of the earthquake can be reviewed within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and improve their calculations, or when other agencies release their reports. The Seismic Center (EMSC) also recorded the magnitude 4.2 earthquake, and according to preliminary calculations, we do not expect many people to feel the earthquake and cause no damage.
