UK Elections: Tom Watson Launching Campaign Downhill – BBC News

Boris Johnson’s election campaign has had a difficult start following the resignation of a cabinet minister. Alun Cairns announced after he was standing as secretary of state in Wales that he lied about the involvement of the Conservative party candidate in what a judge called a “sabotage” of a rape trial.

Speaking to members of the West Midlands party on Wednesday afternoon, the UK prime minister urged people to vote conservatively, “to pursue Brexit and unleash the potential of this country”.

Meanwhile, Labor MP Tom Watson is stepping away from his role and will not run for office in the December election. He says he will continue to campaign for the party, and the decision was “personal, not political.”

Presented by Huw Edwards, Laura Kuenssberg, Felicity Evans, John Pienaar, Iain Watson, Faisal Islam and Mark Easton.
