The high human cost of the Coronavirus pandemic is revealed in the latest official data. They show that in the week ending 10 April the death rates in England and Wales are twice the level normally expected.
There have been 18,500 deaths this week, the largest in 20 years. More than 6,000 of these deaths were quadrupled with coronavirus and in homes that cared for the death.
