The Coachella Valley Disaster Preparedness webinar will feature a presentation by Dr. Dennis Meletti on earthquake preparedness on Wednesday

You can never be too prepared for an earthquake or other disaster. This was what Dr. Dennis Milletti believed as a world-famous advocate of disaster preparedness who lived here in the Coachella Valley. He recently passed away from the Coronavirus.

Caitlin Thropay of Channel 3 News takes a look at his work and dedication to helping others survive disasters.

Mark Benthein, director of communications, education and outreach at the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC), described Dr. Meliti’s character for News Channel 3: “She is somewhat confrontational but also has a good spirit in a way that leads people to take action.”

Dr. Milletti was a man who could not be shaken by his passion for helping others prepare for earthquakes.

“Being the passionate person that was all about emergency preparedness and the bottom line is just caring for people and wanting to see them succeed, achieve a successful outcome regardless of the emergency disaster;” Carla Sullivan-Dele, Chair of the Coachella Valley Disaster Preparedness Network (CVDPN), told the news channel Third Monday, this was his field of specialty.

Milletti has studied earthquakes by the social sciences for more than 50 years. He was the former director of the Natural Hazards Center and a long time resident of Rancho Mirage.

“He was literally known all over the world,” Sullivan Daily said.

In January, Meliti died at the age of 75 from complications from COVID-19.
